Car Maintenance

Yesterday I topped the oil up in the car. Many parts of a car should be shiny, but the dipstick is apparently not one of them. Since the change I've been noticing that the engine has been running more smoothly, the car starts more easily and I can see more things out of the rear view mirror. Or is some of this psycho-somatic?
